Arctic Tour

The second day of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Western Canadian Arctic tour started this morning. This was the view from my hotel window last night at the last light of the day.
We went straight to the airport where we boarded a Canadian Armed Forces C-130 Hercules aircraft for a quick flight to Tuktoyaktuk, here is the Prime Minister boarding the plane.

Some images on board the Herc including my seat and office, lunch, and CP photographer Tom Hanson from Ottawa.

Tuk was cold! In Aug it was +2, although I guess it is 300 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The great thing about Tuk, is we could hook up Sierra Wireless cards and transmit photos at the Arctic Ocean. Here I am sending photos to Singapore on the tarmac and the RCMP officer is waiting to inspect our bag with a sniffer dog before we board the plane.
We flew straight to Dawson City, Yukon from here, which is a famous old gold mining town in the north, cool and wacky place, a place you want to spend some time in and shoot a lot of photos, there is a picture around every corner.

North of the Circle

Off to Inuvik for a tour of the Western Arctic with the Prime Minister. Flying on First Air was great, with a hot meal. Stood on the North Pole, almost attacked by a polar bear and watched a great sunset at 11 pm.

Baby Shambles

The critics are already raging over the new Pete Doherty CD, the front man for the group Baby Shambles. Doherty, the bad boy of British Rock n' Roll, wrote some of the new album “Shotter’s Nation”, with his girl friend, super model Kate Moss. Doherty also had a hand in the design of the album, and chose one of my "Hoser Cam" shots for the front cover. The cd is already on the road to being a top seller; released by EMI.

Hello!

Check out the October 22, 2007 issue of Hello! Canada. I did a portrait a few weeks back of Edmonton Oiler hockey star Sheldon Souray, named one of Canada's hottest bachelors. And yes, he looks better in real life than on the printed page, it has been my assistant Carla's favorite assignment so far.

Candian Cowboy Country

Got to work with George Canyon, the country singer this summer. George is a great singer, player who has been on the country charts for the past couple of years. We had a great shoot at his little ranch in Alberta and the results are on the cover of this months Canadian Cowboy Country magazine. I look forward to shooting with him again.
